Why You Should Watch the Weather

Emergency situations do happen – things that are not expected and develop quickly. In these cases, preparedness and accurate information is key.

However, most severe weather and events do not come out of nowhere – it’s usually part of a system that is known ahead of time, sometimes days in advance. Paying attention to the weather and the news will create awareness of large weather systems that could produce severe, dangerous conditions.

Texas is big and we have many different types of weather events that can impact our state. From hurricanes on the coasts to blizzards in the panhandle and critical fire weather across the state. Understanding the potential risks and types of events that can impact your area and where you live is part of preparedness.

Weather systems can cause disruptions to your support services and life-sustaining utilities for individuals with disabilities. You can use this extra time to prepare for what’s coming and make plans. Talk to the right people beforehand to identify options and resources to be prepared for those potential disruptions.

See our Weather & Emergency Alerts for Texans with Disabilities for information about alerts that can help you stay informed.
