Moving Forward: ADA 30 Texas Statewide Online Celebration
July 24, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
July marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). More than 20 agencies and organizations from across the state are celebrating with a series of virtual workshops throughout the month, culminating in a big, Texas-style celebration on July 24 called “Moving Forward.”
The event will open with a series of notable disability advocates sharing their experience with the ADA- what it was like to see it implemented, how it has furthered the civil rights of Americans with disabilities, and where it still needs to go. Speakers include:
- Dr. Lex Frieden (A chief architect of the ADA)
- Bob Kafka
- Tar Gillman
- Renee Lopez
- Alejandrina Guzman
- Archer Hadley
- Gabe Cazares
- Kim Powers (former actress, deaf-blind self advocate)
- Anne Washington (daughter of Justin Dart, author of the ADA)
After hearing from our speakers, we will take a virtual tour of Texas with brief ADA birthday wishes from local disability advocates across the state.
Real time captioning and sign language interpreters will be available, if you need other accommodations, email gcpd@gov.texas.gov or 512-463-5739.
This event is free. Registration is required.
