How to file a special education-related complaint

If you think your child’s education rights are being violated, you can try to get the issue resolved by filing a complaint.

Local Level Grievance

When the school district has violated your child’s education rights and your informal attempts to resolve the issue didn’t work, it might be time to file a local level grievance. This is the school district’s complaint process and it requires them to formally respond to you within a fixed timeline.

TEA Complaint

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) investigates complaints about school districts that violate federal or state special education laws. If you have complaints about the special education services being provided by your school district, you can file a complaint with TEA.
