The 2026 midterm election will be Tuesday, November 3. For the election, many important races will be decided in Texas, including Governor, Attorney General, and representatives in the Texas Legislature and U.S. Congress.
Important dates:
- October 5: Last day to register to vote or update your registration
- October 19: Early voting begins
- October 23: Vote-by-mail applications must be received
- October 30: Early voting ends
- November 3: Election Day
If you’re eligible to vote in the election, there are a number of things in place to help you cast your ballot. It’s important to learn about your options and develop your voting plan now so you’re prepared to participate and have your voice heard.
Below are some resources and information to help you prepare.
Register to vote: Are you registered to vote? If you’re not sure, how do you find out? If you aren’t registered, how do you do it? See How to Register to Vote in Texas to learn more.
Alternative voting options: Curbside voting is available for people who can’t physically enter the polling place. People with disabilities can vote by mail and avoid going to a polling place altogether. And early voting can help you avoid long lines on Election Day.
Plan ahead: Before you head to the polls, make sure you know what ID you need and arrange your transportation ahead of time.
At the polling place:
- You can ask for help with things like navigating the polling place and marking your ballot (our Voter Accommodation Request Tool can help with this).
- Voters with certain disabilities can ask to move to the front of the line.
- If you think you’re registered to vote, but you’re not showing up in the system, you can still vote using a provisional ballot.
Get help: If you have a disability and are having problems voting, you can call our Voting Rights Hotline at 1-888-796-VOTE (8683) or email vote@drtx.org.
These are just some of the things to be aware of when it comes to participating in an election that is accessible to you. Our website has many voting rights resources — including in American Sign Language (ASL) — that can help you prepare for the election.
