When a student returns to their home campus from a disciplinary alternative education program, the school district is required by law to provide a transition plan to help with their re-entry to the school. Unfortunately, many school districts in Texas are not developing transition plans for these students, which increases the possibility that they will experience negative education outcomes.
Our new report, Transition Planning for Students in Alternative Education Programs, covers the importance of transition plans, how many school districts are – or aren’t – developing transition plans, what’s required by law, and recommendations for improving this issue.
Also, the Personalized Transition Plan Template (PDF, 175 KB) is available. The template can be used during the transition meeting to guide the discussion and document the student’s plan.
