A woman’s path to stability

Adriana* was facing one of the most challenging times of her life. She had recently become unhoused, was turned away from a shelter because of her disability, struggling to get access to medical care, and having problems getting in touch with her vocational rehabilitation (VR) counselor regarding work. She made a decision to contact Disability Rights Texas to see how we might help.

A DRTx advocate worked with Adriana to find solutions to help her overcome these challenges. She was able to set up an Individual Plan for Employment with her VR counselor, connect to medical providers for coverage, and apply for housing.

“Not only did my [DRTx] advocate provide unwavering support, she also helped me secure affordable housing,” said Adriana. “The continued support and advocacy throughout this period were life-changing.”
