In April 2025, Disability Rights Texas helped secure a successful resolution to a disability discrimination case we filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) on behalf of a Texas woman who is blind.
Our client faced challenges at work when her employer failed to support her use of screen reader software—a vital tool for many individuals with visual disabilities. Despite her efforts to suggest solutions, including reaching out to her vocational counselor and the screen reader software provider for assistance, her employer did not act. Ultimately, she lost her job simply because she needed a reasonable accommodation.
Thanks to the settlement, our client will receive financial compensation. More importantly, the company has agreed to provide internal training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and to develop a plan to ensure that future requests for accommodations, especially involving screen reader technology, are handled appropriately and respectfully.
