School Re-entry Planning for Students in Alternative Education Programs

Posted on

When a student returns to their home campus from a disciplinary alternative education program, the school district is required by law to provide a plan to help with their re-entry to the school. Unfortunately, many school districts in Texas are not developing school re-entry plans for these students, which increases the possibility that they will experience negative education outcomes.

Our new report, School Re-entry Planning for Students in Alternative Education Programs, covers the importance of school re-entry plans, how many school districts are – or aren’t – developing these plans, what’s required by law, and recommendations for improving this issue.

Also, the Personalized School Re-entry Plan Template (PDF, 176 KB) is available. The template can be used during the school re-entry planning meeting to guide the discussion and document the student’s plan.
