Woman with Mobility Disability No Longer Trapped in Apartment

Woman wearing sunglasses smiling.Melissa has disabilities that affect her mobility, so she cannot use stairs without a major struggle. She lived in a public housing building on the 13th floor where the elevators often were out of order, trapping her in her apartment most of the time. She called DRTx for help getting an accommodation to move to another public housing building where she could have a first floor unit. Our staff sent the request to her housing authority, and it was approved two days later. Melissa will soon be living in a home that is accessible where she is free to leave when she needs or wants to.
