Austin Summer Law Clerks
Gunnison Hays

Gunnison is a rising 2L at the University of Arizona James E. Rodgers College of Law and a proud Texas Ex. He is interested in disability rights, veterans rights, and housing law. Outside of academics, Gunnison is interested in aviation, NYT Games, and is an avid Star Wars fan.
Calvin Kirkpatrick

Calvin (he/him) is a rising 2L at University of Texas School of Law. He has a history major with economics and political science minors from Trinity University. Calvin is most interested in labor and employment law. In his free time, Calvin enjoys modding and playing historical video games and board games. He is excited about being at DRTx this summer, and looks forward to helping people.
Mark Sterling

Mark is a rising 3L at Harvard Law School originally from Mansfield, Texas. Before law school, he taught middle school science for three years in Fort Worth ISD and Austin ISD. Mark graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in 2021 and from Southern Methodist University with an MEd in 2023. He is particularly passionate about advocating for youth with disabilities, and he is excited to learn through his work at DRTx this summer!
Sibeles “Felix” Torres

Felix (she/her) is a rising 2L at Texas A&M University School of Law with a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies from Brown University. Before law school, she spent two years working as a legal aid case worker with Houston Volunteer Lawyers. Felix was introduced to the disability justice movement through Project LETS’s community initiatives at Brown. She is passionate about building equitable and inclusive systems of care where everyone can thrive.
Kate Whyte

Kate is a rising 2L at Texas law, where she is involved with the Texas Journal on Civil Liberties & Civil Rights and the Mithoff Pro Bono Program. Kate graduated from UT-Austin, where she studied government and social work. Kate became interested in public interest law while interning with Texas RioGrande Legal Aid focusing on education and youth justice issues.
Houston Summer Law Clerks
Spiro Hoxha

Spiro is a rising 2L at University of Houston Law Center. He is passionate about all kinds of public interest work, and in undergrad he did research on a variety of public policies regarding universal access of infrastructure and wealth redistribution. Spiro is very excited to be here!
Trish Killins

Trish is entering her junior year of college studying elementary education at fort Lewis College. She is interning with the Foster Care Team this summer.
Maren Mihelich

Maren is a 3L at Baylor Law School. She attended Grand Canyon University for her undergraduate degree, with a major in Justice Studies. During her time at law school, Maren has participated in various volunteer opportunities with Baylor Law School and the surrounding Waco community, including Baylor Law’s Estate Planning Clinic, Baylor Law School Adoption Day, Baylor Law School’s Day of Service, Operation Christmas Child, Keep Waco Beautiful, and more. Maren has also enjoyed participation on Baylor Law advocacy teams and membership with the Baylor Law Review. This upcoming fall, Maren will serve on Baylor Law Review’s editorial board.
At her clerkship with DRTx on the Housing and Transportation team, Maren focuses on drafting reasonable accommodations, legal research of fair housing law, client communication, and analysis of cases for short-term advice. She has secured successful reasonable accommodations for clients who needed to terminate their leases early for disability-related reasons. Maren has also presented at Fair Housing Workshops. Her work experience as a caregiver has given her a passion for her clerkship at DRTx. Maren’s clerkship is under the Fair Housing Clerkship Program at DRTx established by Madison Barney, an Equal Justice Works Fellow sponsored by an anonymous donor.
Alexandra Stephens

Alexandra is a rising third-year law student at the University of Houston Law Center with a passion for civil and human rights advocacy. She graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a degree in International Affairs and a minor in Sociology. As a native Houstonian, Alexandra founded and leads Hands and Hearts Houston, where she focuses on community service and local advocacy efforts to pour back into her hometown.
Lubbock Summer Law Clerk
Reed Hammond

Reed is a rising 3L at Texas Tech University School of Law. He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology and Legal Studies from Southern Utah University. He is interested in practicing labor and employment law in West Texas. Reed previously worked for the Disability Resource Center in Cedar City, Utah, helping students with school accommodations and professional development. In 2025, he served as a Judicial Intern for the 237th District Court in Lubbock. This summer, Reed is excited to work with Disability Rights Texas, where he will develop practical legal skills while advocating for individuals with disabilities. Reed’s academic experience in law school, combined with his interest in client-centered advocacy, has drawn him to work that directly impacts people’s day-to-day lives. Reed is particularly interested in issues at the intersection of employment and disability rights, and he looks forward to contributing to meaningful legal work that promotes accessibility and fairness.
